Types of Senior Living

There are many different kinds of Senior Living. Finding which one is best for you or your loved one is important, but it can be difficult to know which is best for your current situation.

Independent living provides a living space similar to an apartment for seniors who don’t require medical assistance. Independent living offers meal options, amenities, and opportunities for socializing.

Assisted living is for seniors who require some level of care assistance.  It is similar to Independent Living in that it provides a sense of community – just with added care support and assistance.  In addition, Memory or Dementia care falls under the category of Assisted Living and provides a level of care which focuses on the unique needs that may present with a Dementia diagnosis.

In-Home care allows you to live at your home, with a caretaker coming by to assist with everyday tasks such as medicine reminders, cleaning, cooking, transportation, and grooming.

When Should I Move Into Senior Living?

It can be difficult to determine when the best time to move into Senior Living is, especially if you or your loved one is still managing to live independently.

When it comes to deciding when you should move into Senior Living, it’s important to consider multiple factors, including your current level of health and mobility, how well you are able to maintain your home, and whether or not you have an existing medical condition that may present with future needs.

Truthfully, the best time to move into Senior Living is before you think you really need to. So if you’re considering moving into Independent or Assisted Living, don’t hesitate – give us a call.

Reasons to Move Into Senior Living

There are many reasons why it may be a good idea – or just a nice change of pace – to move into Senior Living. If you or your loved one is struggling with day-to-day tasks or simply find oneself withdrawing from life itself – Senior Living can promote independence and improve overall quality of life.

Best Age to Move Into Independent Living

So what’s the best age to move into senior living? There’s no one right answer; it depends on many things, including your own comfort. To help you decide, we’ve put together a list of average ages for beginning each type of senior living:

  • Independent Living: Independent living is for anybody who would enjoy living in a community of their peers with amenities included. The typical, minimum age is 60-65, but many seniors choose to wait until they’re between 75 and 84.
  • Assisted Living & Memory Care: Assisted Living is for seniors who require a varying range of assistance with things like hygiene, remembering to take medications, and preparing food, amongst other things. What age will be best for entering assisted living is different for everybody, as it depends on what level of care is best for your quality of life.
  • In-Home Care: In-home care is a great choice for seniors who require some assistance, but would rather stay in the comfort of their own home. In-home care can provide assistance with cooking, cleaning, going to medical appointments, and more – or it can be more intensive care. Because it varies so much, the age one begins in-home care will vary as well.
